Accelerating Application Modernization with OpenAI Codex

Large enterprises today face immense pressure to modernize their legacy applications to stay competitive, reduce security and operational risks. Decades-old systems, from COBOL mainframes to aging Java or .NET monoliths, underpin critical business processes in almost all industries and increasingly impede innovation by slowing down product development, exposing security vulnerabilities and making integration with modern tools difficult. In 2022, just in US, the IT technical debt was estimated at $1.52 trillion, reflecting pervasive outdated code and design problems in enterprise applications. Around 70 % of software used in Fortune 500 companies is over 20 years old, many critical applications pre-date cloud and modern security practices. U.S. federal government spends approx. 80% of its annual IT budget on the operations and maintenance of existing, often legacy, systems, leaving only about 20% for development, modernization and enhancement initiatives. To better serve customers, enterprises seek improved performance, better integration capabilities, enhanced security and agility to support new digital initiatives.
